Professor wins surveyor of the year award
Steve Frank, associate professor of surveying engineering in the College of Engineering at New Mexico State University, has been named Surveyor of the Year by the New Mexico Professional Surveyors (NMPS).
The award is given out each year to a member of the surveying profession who has given great service to the profession over the years. Nominations come from several chapters of NMPS.
Frank said receiving the award was very gratifying for him. I am happy and proud to be the recipient for 2007, Frank said. It is nice to be recognized for effort that you put in.
Frank teaches plane surveying, boundary law, subdivision design and land information systems, and has been licensed as a professional land surveyor in California since 1980 and New Mexico since 1996.
Prior to moving to New Mexico, Frank worked in California, Saudi Arabia and Maine. He is also a former president of NMPS as well as the American Association for Geodetic Surveying. He is the co-author of a textbook, Professionalism and Ethics in Surveying.
I'm extremely proud of the fact that he is being recognized for his tremendous service, Steve Castillo, dean of the College of Engineering said. We are continuing to work hard to meet the needs of our constituents throughout New Mexico. What he does in New Mexico is a good example of that.
NMPS has eight chapters located throughout the state. Their goal is to keep the land surveying profession respected and worthy of public and professional esteem, while maintaining high ethical standards and encouraging educational development of its members.
