CEMRC to perform analysis of gasses from nuclear waste drums

Washington TRU Solutions, LLC recently awarded the Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring and Research Center (CEMRC) $65,000 for a project entitled “Head Space Gas Analysis of Sample Canisters.” CEMRC will perform head space gas analysis for a specific list of volatile organic compounds, hydrogen and methane on samples provided from drums of nuclear waste being shipped to the U.S. Department of Energy's Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) near Carlsbad  from sites around the country.  This activity is compliance related and stems from changes in the state of New Mexico permit modification concerning the shipment of nuclear waste to WIPP. NMSU CEMRC recently finished construction of a new organic analytical laboratory in order to perform this work.
