Doing What Counts!

New Mexico State University recently announced a decision to increase the goal for the “ Doing What Counts ” comprehensive campaign from $150 million to $225 million by 2010. As one of the cornerstones of the university, the College of Engineering plays an integral role in ensuring the campaign's overall success. We have set ambitious goals to increase endowed chairs and professorships, enhance facilities for laboratories and classrooms, and most importantly, expand scholarships for engineering students.

The College of Engineering continues to move forward with an aggressive Strategic Plan that focuses on national recognition of our research and engineering education programs by 2015, production of exceptional graduates and development of leading-edge technologies through strong engineering research programs. This past fall we experienced overall gains of 7% in enrollment (35% increase in freshmen engineering enrollment), 6% in engineering research expenditures, and we are showing a steady increase in national recognition of our research and educational programs. We continue to produce quality engineering graduates who are in high demand by companies from throughout the country for their diversity, engineering knowledge and their ability to move seamlessly into the workforce. In addition, we recently established an Entrepreneur Lecture Series to encourage our innovative engineering students to explore the opportunity to take their technologies and skills and establish high-tech businesses within the state as successful entrepreneurs.

We are very proud of the many accomplishments within the College. As we begin a new year, I look forward to working with each of you to continue to move the College forward through various charitable and philanthropic endeavors. Most importantly, I would like that thank fellow alumni and friends who are stepping forward to invest in the College of Engineering by Doing What Counts !

Best regards,

Patricia
